English as a Second Language
The Montvale Public Library seeks energetic
individuals to join our team of Literacy
Volunteers of Pascack Valley.
There are many adults in Montvale who need
one-on-one practice in learning to speak and understand English.
All volunteers are trained at either the Westwood
or Paramus Public Library; training is free to Montvale volunteers. For the foreseeable future, tutor training workshops will be conducted online.
ESL tutors must attend the training sessions before being
matched with a student. The tutor is then responsible for creating
a learning experience based on the needs of his/her student.
This is an excellent opportunity for any adult
seeking to help other individuals help
themselves. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lorissa
Lightman at lorissa.lightman@montvale.bccls.org or call (201) 391-5090 at the following times:
Monday: 1-6
Tuesday: 5-9
Wednesday: 10-2
Thursday: 10-2
Please note that all ESL tutors are required to sign
a Volunteer Hold Harmless Agreement.
Tutor training workshops are sponsored by the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley. Their website is here.
