What is a mobile hotspot?
A mobile hotspot (sometimes called a portable hotspot) is a hotspot that’s just that—mobile! While a “regular” WiFi hotspot is tied to a physical location, a mobile hotspot can make a data connection to connect your laptop, phone, Ipad or other mobile device to the Internet. This process is called “tethering.”
When would a mobile hotspot be useful?
A mobile hotpot might be useful in the following situations:
-If you are running out of data on your phone or mobile device.
-If ou want to work from outside- in your yard, at a park etc. and you do not have a WiFi connection.
-If you have multiple people using Wifi on their devices and your signal is weak or working slower then you like.
-If you are going away on vacation and don't have Wifi.
-If the power goes out and your router is not working but you need a Wifi connection.
Interested in checking out a Mobile Hotspot?
Adult Montvale residents with a valid library card in good standing may check out a single hotspot for two weeks (14 days).
HotSpots can be reserved by phone (201-391-5090), email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or in person.
There are no renewals. You will be charged $5.00 for each day that the hotspot is late. After three days, service to the hotspot will be cut off.
If the device, cable or adapter are lost or damaged, you will be charged the full replacement cost ($62.00) of the device.
The HotSpot must be returned, in-person, to the circulation desk. Do not put the HotSpot into the Book Drop or return it to another library.
