We are taking taking registrations for this “summer camp” of reading for children of all ages! A trail map will guide you through your reading process logging your reading where you have plenty of prize pit stops and raffle tickets to re-energize you and keep you going to the end!

March 4, 11,18 & 25, Thursdays
Brain Fair @ 4:00 pm
This is a 4 week program where students will learn about the brain through engaging and interesting activities and challenges. Microscope viewings, circuit building, optical illusions are just of the few highlights featured in each session! If you love learning about science and want to explore the brain, join us! Sessions will be held Thursdays March 4, 11, 18, 25 at 4:00 pm via Zoom! Come to one or all! This program is suited best for grades 2-8
March 9th, Tuesday
STEAM-to-GO: Robotics
@ 3:45 pm
Join us for a live trained instructor from STEAM-to go will be guiding participants through the process of building a robot creation using scientific concepts and principles. By the session’s end, students will have a robot that they will customize and make their own. Where some materials may be needed from home, the Montvale Library will provide individually prepared and packaged materials necessary to complete a STEM activity and have them ready for pick up prior to the session. Registration is required and is best suited for grades 3-5.

Little Learners
STEAM Series @ 1:30 pm
Are you looking for a fun, virtual activity for your early learner? We are offering a week virtual experience for our Little Learners March 11, 18 and 25. This will be a virtual session of sharing, exploring, and discovering STEM based activities and extensions. This fun program will take place on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 via Zoom. Registration is required and best suited for ages 2-5.

Join us for a toddler virtual story time at 10:30 am February 10, 17 and 24. This is a fun, interactive session that will explore activities that enhance early literacy skills through songs, fingerplays and books!. This class is best suited for children under 2 years old. Registration is required.

Art Class with Artist Peri @ 4:00 pm
Putting the “A” in STEAM, Artist Peri will be sprinkling a little science into her art class this month. Color mixing, patterns, and perspective are just a few topics that will enhance this program. All you need is some paper, pencil and a lot of imagination! March 22 @ 4:00 pm. Grades 2 and up

Middle Grade Reader Book Club @ 3:45 pm
Who loves to read and talk about great books? Join us to talk about March’s Book of the Month Never After by Melissa de la Cruz, get the buzz on new books, and share your favorite titles with friends (virtually of course). The next meeting is Wednesday March 18 at 3:45. Registration is required and best for grades 4-8.

African American History Month
The Children’s Room will feature a diverse collection of picture, chapter and Young Adult books in displays throughout the library, cultivated book lists and recommendations in tribute to African American historic story and achievements.

Also....
For the month of February the Children’s Room will be presenting an indoor Story Station. This is an interactive picture book exhibit designed to actively engage children featuring Ezra Jack Keats' book The Snowy Day.

Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day
In remembrance of Dr. King, please enjoy a do-at-home craft. Just click the button below to download.

Craft Directions:
Download and print the poem. Then trace your child's hands using markers or crayon on each side of the poem. Let your child color in the hands. You can also use colored construction paper and practice scissor skills by cutting the hands or place painted handprints to make this a memorable keepsake.

Cozy up this season and get reading! We are launching our first mid- year reading challenge. We encourage all young readers to test their reading skills, choose new books and genres and strive for a goal of 21 books by June 2021.

Family Art Class
Canvas and Cocoa: A Holiday Family Art Class
Monday December 14th @ 7:00 pm
Artist Peri is back and will be hosting art class for the whole family! We will provide the cocoa and art materials prior to the class. Canvases are limited to 1 per family where everyone can have a chance to add to one beautiful work of art.
Registration is required for this class and all ages are welcome to participate.

Get into your jammies and settle in while Ms. Mary's and Stardust virtually share wonderful holiday stories. Registration is required and best for ages 5 and younger.

Live (Virtual) Performers
Magical Story Time program: A Magical Melodies and Bendy Bookworm Mash-Up!
This two for one program features Mr. Chris of Magical Melodies and the Bendy Bookworm coming together for a mash-up of music, story time, and yoga! It is a magical combination of developmental skills gained through yoga storytelling of the Bendy Bookworm AND all the fun crazy song and dance joy that Mr. Chris’s Magical Melodies brings. This is a virtual program via Zoom and will be on Tuesday December 15th at 3:45. It works with a wide age range of audiences particularly those 18 months up to third grade.

StoryTime
December 22nd at 10:30 am don't let the cold bother you! Join our Frozen storytime where we will sing songs, read stories and maybe even see a special guest! Children are invited to come in princess costumes, or hats and gloves to keep them warm because we will be keeping things cool during this event! This is best suited for children under the age of 5.

Registration is required and is best suited for grades 3-5.

On Wednesday December 2nd at 4:00 pm, we will be hosting an opportunity to hand craft your own clay piece via Zoom with Peter Lagomarsino of Creative Ways.
Here is how it works. After your registration is confirmed:

Pick up Clay Kits
Complete kits filled with all the necessary material will be provided and picked up at the library prior Nov. 22-25 .

Attend Zoom Class
On Dec. 2nd, the day of the class, Mr. Peter will provide step by step instructions throughout the virtual meeting.

Drop off Projects for Glazing
Dec. 3-5, participants bring their finished pieces to us at the library where they will be fired and glazed off site.

Pick up finished product
Dec 21-23 you will pick up plates at the library and have a completed, functional piece of your own creation!
Registration is required and you must be in 3rd grade or above.
Space is limited.

Artist Peri will be back leading a Thanksgiving- themed art class on Monday November 23 @ 4:00.
This is a virtual art lesson via Zoom where Artist Peri provides step by step instructions in creating a personal work of art. All you need is a pencil and paper and a little imagination to participate.
Registration will be required and best for children ages 5 and older.

Calling all movers and shakers! We are making homemade butter and invite you to join us via Zoom!
All you need is a small jar (a baby food jar is a great size), some heavy cream and a lot of energy! Together we will shake the afternoon away.
By the end of the session we will have delicious, fresh butter; just in time for Thanksgiving.
Note: The Children’s Room has some extra jars to share. Please let us know if you need one.
