Fines
The Montvale Public Library is Late Fine Free!!!
We will no longer charge your account is an item is late. We will assume an item is lost if it is over 90 days late and your account will be charged the cost of the book. That charge may be reversed if the book is returned in good condition. Not all libraries have the same policy. When checking out or requesting books from other libraries, it is the patrons responsibility to check their policy on late fees.
Other non-refundable fines are charged as follows:
MISSING CD POUCH: 75¢
MISSING CD JEWEL BOX FROM READALONG: $5.00
MISSING CD JEWEL BOX FROM MUSIC CD: $10.00
MISSING AUDIO-CASSETTE BOX: 50¢
MISSING READ-ALONG BAG: $5.00
DVD/VIDEO LEFT IN BOOK DROP: $2.00
TOTALLY DESTROYED OR MISSING DVD BOX: $10.00
DAMAGED (BUT EASILY REPLACEABLE) DVD BOX: $3.00
Fines for items checked out from other libraries:
The computer system calculates fines based on the policy of the library that
owns the item, NOT on where the item was returned.
We will collect these fines exactly as posted.
Lost Items
Sorry, but according to Library policy established by the Board of Trustees, we do NOT accept a purchased copy in lieu of payment.
If the price of an item is not listed in the item record, the Montvale Library charges the unit price as listed below.
Check payments for lost materials will be refunded if the items are returned within 7 day of the payment date.
Credit card payments (on-line only) will not be refunded, even if the items are subsequently returned.
Payment for an item belonging to another library MUST be by a check made out to the owning library.
If the Montvale Library reimburses another library for material borrowed by or for a Montvale cardholder and not returned by the cardholder, that cardholder is responsible for the entire reimbursement cost even if the cardholder finally returns the lost material.
